Welcome to Historical Suffolk Research Services

Welcome to my new rebuilt and redesigned website. I am aware there are a few contradictions and errors imported from the old site. These will be corrected and updated as part of a revamp of the site.

I am pleased to include the works of two new local authors. More on that on the Publications page.

The aim of the following pages is two fold. Firstly to introduce the reader to the wealth of the history encapsulated within the boundaries of our lovely county of Suffolk.

Secondly to promote my freelance services relating to Suffolk’s history.

Born and brought up in the rural parish of Pettistree, I have been a Suffolk resident for over 60 years, so I feel I can lay claim to some knowledge of the county, its people, places and character.

My interest in historical matters stemmed from a desire to trace my own family roots. This evolved into a more general interest in local history, but with a particular focus on the parish workhouses which – for some 250 years – attempted to solve the eternal problem of what to do with the poor.

This in turn led to the setting up of my freelance research business, details of which are on the RESEARCH page.

To compliment the research I have now published a series of books on various aspects of my research. For details please click on PUBLICATIONS.

There you can experience and enjoy a pictorial view of our county in this the 21st century. Albums include: Suffolk’s Landscapes, Seascapes, Churches, Historical Buildings, Workhouses, and Parishes.

To those who would like to learn more of Suffolk workhouses, i not do talks on the parish workhouses. these are powerpoint presentations and last for approximiately one hour. for further details please contact me via email telephone or surface mail in the first instance please
